How Efficient Are Permethrin-Treated And Deet-Treated Uniforms in Protecting Soldiers from Tick Bites

چکیده
DESIGN AND INTERVENTION BDUs of following four treatment categories were exposed to field populations of ticks: untreated (control), deettreated, permethrin-impregnated (PI), and permethrin-sprayed (PS). Six sites of 1ha (2.5 acres) were selected for a relative abundance of ixodid ticks. Sites were selected to ensure maximum exposure to (1) the ticks of all three growth stages — larval, nymphal, and adult, and (2) to all three major species in the area — A americanum, D. variabilis, and I. dammini. Each of the six sites was divided into 6 lanes 110m long, each of which was further divided into 4 sub-lanes.

Garlic as a tick repellent.
In their Research Letter, Ms Stjernberg and Dr Berglund1 documented a repellent effect of garlic against an unnamed species of tick and stated that daily consumption of 1200 mg of garlic was an alternative to “other agents that might have more adverse effects.” Based on the design of their study, any conclusions concerning the relative effectiveness and safety of garlic as a tick repellent are ...
متن کاملPersonal protection afforded by controlled-release topical repellents and permethrin-treated clothing against natural populations of Aedes taeniorhynchus.
Field tests evaluated repellent formulations containing deet in combination with permethrin-impregnated or untreated military uniforms against Aedes taeniorhynchus. No significant difference was determined between repellents in duration of protection whether or not permethrin-treated clothing was worn, but there were differences in efficacy relative to site of application. The head was the site...
متن کاملEfficacy of permethrin-treated uniforms in combination with DEET topical repellent for protection of French military troops in Côte d'Ivoire.
In 2000, 22,000 French military personnel were deployed overseas. The French military health service implemented a vector control strategy including personal protection by the use of permethrin preimpregnated battlefield uniforms (BFUs) and the application on the skin of a topical repellent (50% DEET). In 2000, French forces used an industrial process to impregnate cloth with permethrin by soak...
متن کاملEfficacy of Permethrin-Impregnated Uniforms in the Prevention of Cutaneous Leishmania-sis in Iranian Soldiers
Background: One approach for prevention of cutaneous leishmaniasis is creation of a barrier between the insect vector (phlebotomus) and the host. Many, but not all, researchers claim that permethrin-impregnated uniforms are effective for prevention of cutaneous leishmaniasis. We determined the efficacy of permethrin-impregnated uniforms for prevention of cutaneous leishmaniasis among Iranian ...
متن کاملPermethrin-impregnated military uniform protection against different species of biting insects: narrative review
Today personal protection measures against mosquitoes and other medically important arthropods have a significant role in integrated vector management programs. Personal protection technologies such as insecticide-treated clothes and nets are some of the most effective tools against mosquitoes. Permethrin, as a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide, with features such as having a knockdown, repellen...
